Kabul

Walking in Macrorayan-e-Kohana.  Turban was associated by some with the authorities, whom I had to remind about the pre-fighting era when our leaders would proudly present  turbans to foreign state guests as national gifts.  Further, Afghans consider wearing turban as a traditional writ of passage from boyhood to manhood.

The authorities strictly prohibit taking pictures of women, but are said to be open to persuasion by men taking pictures of themselves and of buildings and so forth.  The punishment is generally taking away of the film -- a risk which I thought was worth taking a picture in a location with years of my childhood memories.
